Drooling Over. I just spent a wad of money on a fancy new Canon lens and then I hear this news….. a brand new Canon 5D MKII Digital SLR that shoots stills at 21 megapixels with apparently very little to no noise in low light conditions and also shoots high resolution HD video. GAH!!!
I am not sure how much I would use the HD video as I don’t use video now on my trusty little point and shoot, but I had been eyeing the 5D as a second SLR camera body due to its full frame sensor. Means I could shoot with my 10-22mm at full frame without the automatic 1.5x magnification on the range that the smaller Canon SLRs have. Would be nice.
With a price tag of $2700 though, I will need to save a lot of pennies before even contemplating getting this SLR camera body, but it is something to work towards. Why oh why do I have to have an expensive hobby?
Preparing for. Two small photo trips. I pick up momma from the airport on Wednesday and then we head for a weekend in the Olympic Peninsula. We are staying two nights at the Kaloch lodge out on the Pacific coast where we will be close to the pacific ocean beaches and the Hoh Rain Forrest. Then we spend one night at Sol Duc Hot Springs on the north end of the park nearby Hurricane Ridge and some great natural hot springs to soak our bodies in .
We return home for a quick laundry run, then head back out on the road towards Yellowstone National Park. Looking forward to shooting this park in the beautiful fall colors and hopefully seeing some great wild animals along the way.
I gotta start packing all the camera gear for the trip. For me, these are photo trips as I want to try out my new fancy lens and work on some specific techniques like depth of field and selective focusing. We will see how that turns out. I also need to review some of my photo notes so I am a bit more prepared heading into these photo trips.
Cooking. I love the food network and am currently into Tyler Florence Ultimate cooking. I made his recipe for Chicken Enchiladas with Roasted Tomatillo Chile Salsa a while back and absolutely loved it. First time I ever used Tomatillos and find using them so much more authentic Mexican than anything I had tried previously. I made them again over the weekend as I seem to be on a Mexican food kick recently.
Try the Tomatillos salsa on its own as just a salsa with chips and even that is great. Kinda like a spicy salsa verde.
I got some ribs in the freezer waiting to be cooked using Tyler’s BBQ Ribs recipe, but since I am on a diet right now and I don’t want to eat a how rack of ribs by myself, I am waiting for a party or other large group opportunity before delving into that recipe.
Watching. Did I mention that I loved the Food Network?
Over the past two years, one of my other favorite chefs, Alton Brown, has had a summer series, Feasting on Asphalt. He and his crew travel through the US feasting on local delicacies. This year, he is doing his series down in the Caribbean and since that makes motorcycle travel a bit more problematic, it is titled, Feasting on Waves.
We are only 2 episodes in and I already want to plan a trip down to Anguilla and St. Marteen to visit some of the places he has been and to try some of the delicious looking food he is eating. Yum!!
